I must explore the open sea!

**My thoughts**
This fun rhyming story is about an octopus named Inky who has been enjoying his life in his tank, but now aches to see more of the world And somehow, he manages to escape and venture out into the world. It's based on a true story and also includes some other fun, true, and crazy octopus antics.

The bulk of it is full of fun octopus trivia, making it a fun research tool for older kids. The first part, which is the picture book part, is fun for younger kids to read. Adjust your presentation of it accordingly depending on the age and level of children's you're sharing it with. Let them explore it on their own to get out of it what they can at their own level.

Thank you to NetGalley for the review copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Roro Goes Around the World by S. Vito Neshev

Roro Goes Around the World

Roro is a parrot from a small village in Brazil, who dreams about exploring the world. He is eager to discover their favorite things to do and to try them together. The journey takes our curious parrot through fifteen diverse countries on four continents, where he meets local animals and picks up what they have to offer - from playing ball with red kangaroos in Australia to having lunch with a family of brown bears in Russia and swimming with a dolphin in Greece. Every country includes numbers, colors, animals, vehicles, geography, an ecosystem, and healthy activity, making it a gourmet offering for the curious soul. With his background in direct response marketing and sales, the author also includes an almost invisible but powerful layer as a bonus, which he calls the "Bond with my child method". Here is a break-down of the multiple layers in "Roro goes...":

ADVENTURE – the book is abundant in captivating situations, in which the main character is putting himself or is being put by his newly-found friends, so that a child will be entertained to listen, watch or read the story.

THE NUMBERS FROM 1 to 11, introduced in the form of words as well as characters or animals one can count, this way the child can be engaged in various ways to learn them

ALL MAIN COLORS, including white and black, again used not just as single words or colored shapes but as living animals, part of the pictures and text, allowing for learning, using MULTIPLE SENSES

VOCABULARY, or words important on both the younger spectrum of the audience, like BALL, MOMMY, DADDY etc., as well as more advanced for the older child, who can either listen to them or read them on their own

GEOGRAPHY – fifteen countries on four continents are included in the journey of the main character, Roro, with the country names and locations shown on a world map for the benefit of the child, as well as the grown-up.

ANIMALS – usually typical or connected to the respective country in a meaningful way, sixteen different animals are introduced in the book, so that the little ones can learn them

VEHICLES – with over 10 different vehicles, Roro tours the world, and doesn’t miss to also walk and hike, thus showing the young audience the multitude of transportation means available to a traveler

HEALTHY ACTIVITIES – with addressing both exciting one-off, more on the adventure side activities, like scuba diving and swimming with a dolphin, as well as critical daily routines, like taking a bath, napping, games, and hugs, the text encourages healthy habits

COLORING – a few coloring pages are included, this way the child can also be engaged in yet another way of learning

QUESTIONS – the grown-up reader is provided with some thoughtful sample questions to ask the child, so that both of them can practice one of the most important life skills, in the author’s opinion, namely asking relevant questions and listening for the answers. Questions are also a critical part of the bonding process, later described

HUMOR – a few silly pages are included to break up the flow, in case the child or their loving caregiver feel that the learning has become all-too-serious.

COMMUNITY, a tribe (or a family) of like-minded, child-loving grown-ups, have come together to support each other and to build a life-long connection with any child they love. We lovingly call ourselves #ChildDevelopers, under the motto “Until every child is living their dream”

BONUS - CONNECT WITH YOUR CHILD IN 90-SECONDS – the Bond with my child method is offered as extra credit for the over-achievers among us and is definitely not mandatory. It is a process, derived from the best practices of today’s titans of direct response marketing and sales, which the author claims that he uses DAILY with his son and that it has changed both of their lives.

It's OK to be Different by Sharon Purtill

*Gold Award Winner, Literary Titan 2019

Every Child is Unique!

It's OK to be Different written by Sharon Purtill and illustrated by Sujata Saha presents individuality. Everything about it is inspiring.

Children will enjoy the fun and clever rhymes, as they are drawn in by the bright and cheerful illustrations. It is one of those books that both children and adults can enjoy, as it delivers the perfect message to young readers.

This story has effectively imparted an ever-important lesson that individuality should be celebrated and not shunned. It helps children to accept themselves as the beautifully unique individuals that they are, and appreciate all the wonderful diversity around them. By encouraging kids to accept and befriend those who are different from themselves, it shows young children that they don't have to look alike or enjoy doing the same activities to be kind to one another.

When the author wrote this children's book, she did so with one idea in mind. Purtill said "If we can instill positive messages, from a young age, about all the diversity our children will see in the world, we can help raise up compassionate and caring children. When children are raised to accept and embrace those who are different from themselves they are far more likely to be a friend than an adversary to their peers. This can lead to less bullying among children. And that is a beautiful thing."

Readers are left with the message: "You should always be kind to those who are different from you. Because to them, YOU are different too."

The book closes with a short survey for children about kindness. A great way to start an important conversation with young children.

A wonderful picture book for educators and caregivers alike.

"It's OK to be Different, celebrates children who have the courage to be themselves, and to accept others as they are. Young readers with an eye for exceptional artwork and clever wordplay will enjoy it over and over again." Reader's Favorite - 5 Star Review

Sharon Purtill was a stay at home mom and entrepreneur when she stumbled into publishing in 1998. That year, along with her husband, she wrote and published her first book. That book’s success took them both by surprise when it went on to sell tens of thousands of copies right out of their garage. Today, Sharon is an award winning author who publishes in multiple genres under a couple of different pseudonyms. Her passion for writing, family and a positive life motivates her to create books that she hopes will enrich the lives of others. She hopes to one day escape the cold, and write from a tropical beach somewhere where her biggest concerns will be sand sticking to her suntan lotion and an empty margarita glass. But, for now, Sharon treasures the warm summer months and the time she gets to spend with family and friends in Ontario, Canada.

Our Military Family by Suzan Johnson

Our Military Family

Many families miss loved ones when they are away serving in the military. Sometimes the service men and women are away from moms, dads, brothers, and sisters. In this story Dad and the kids, Harmony and Dominic, are home missing mom. Mom is in the United States Army, and during her deployment, she is sometimes gone for up to 12 months. Throughout the book, you experience what the family has to do to cope without mom, all the while missing her. I hope this book is a testament to those families who make many sacrifices at home and abroad so that we can enjoy the freedoms that we have.
