**My thoughts**

This is a sweet story about a little girl's annual trip to the cabin by the lake with her parents and extended family. It made me think of my own childhood when my aunt and uncle would pick up me and my sister to play with all of our cousins at their cottage until our parents could join us on the weekend. And there were always a lot of other kids around, which is different from this child's story. But everyone is going to have their own memories and stories. (This makes for a great talking point with children!)

One thing I noted and loved about this story is how the adults always had to have something specific in mind that they wanted to note or do. Meanwhile, the little girl just wanted to be and relax and not really have anything specific in mind. That's so true to life. Adults have a harder time just letting go the way kids do. And if you're up at the lake, that would be the perfect time to do it! 

This would make for a great bedtime story, especially before going on a similar trip. It would work well in a classroom book corner. You could use it to talk about what each child's own family looks like. And it could inspire creative storytelling about one's own family traditions at a lake and otherwise.

Katelyn Prendergast grew up in the Alberta prairies where she spent the majority of her time at the family lake cabin, which inspired her creative side for crafting, painting, and her great passion for writing. As it is, the only thing that could rival her love of family is a mug of hot chocolate on a frigid Canadian night.
