Review of Papa the Shoemaker by Kyra Kalweit and Dayán Mantecón Roldán

Today I welcome back by Kyra Kalweit and Dayán Mantecón Roldán to the blog with another picture book. Read my thoughts on this modern day fable and then follow the tour for more. Best of luck entering the giveaway!

Hi there, my name is William and I have a question for you!

Would you like to know how your shoes are made?

I invite you to come inside my papa's workshop and learn all the secrets of the ancient art of shoemaking and more.

Let's embark on a creative adventure of fun challenges and life lessons along the way.

Read an excerpt:
“On Wednesday, Papa uses a special sewing machine to stitch the pieces together. He lets me practice using it sometimes.

Papa tells me, “Be patient with yourself, one stitch at a time. By going too fast, you can miss the details of the process. It’s best to take your time and enjoy each moment.””

**My thoughts**
Shoemaking feels like a lost art here in the United States. Children may get a hint about it from something like Disney's "Coco." So I like this bit of cultural know-how that is the foundation of this book. Even I felt like I learned something.

But William learns even more in this modern day fable. Papa also imparts the wisdom in setting goals, making sure you have the tools you need to get there, having patience and staying persistent. The biggest lesson is learning from your mistakes and finding a way to make it better.

It's a very sweet story that I think children ages five and up would best understand. I would definitely include it in a classroom and/or home library.

And as always, the illustrations are fantastic and add so much to the story.

I am looking forward to more tales from this duo.

I received a requested review copy from the publisher via Goddess Fish. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
