Baby Jaimie had never met a cookie she didn't like. That all changed one day while she sneaking them before dinner. She bit down on one and it bit back, or at least so she thought until her mother told her it was just a loose tooth.

Baby Jaimie didn't want to lose her tooth until her sister told her about the tooth fairy. Now, she can't wait for her tooth to come out, but it's not ready to come out yet. It looks like she'll just have to wait, or will she? Read The Adventures of Baby Jaimie: Baby Jaimie Loses A Tooth to find out.

'Veggie's Bully' by C. JoVan Williams

Veggie's BullyVeggie's Bully

A Book Encouraging Self Esteem for Readers Young and Old

A book inspiring lessons about self love, Veggie Bunnie learns something that all readers need to know.... Love yourself, no matter what others may say! Filled with colorful illustrations, this book follows Veggie's relationship with her friends Carb Monkey and his Uncle Bear. Throughout the book, 'Carb' wants to get even with the bully that is bothering Veggie, whereas 'Uncle Bear' wants her to take a different approach. This book encourages readers to be the best person they can be, regardless of how people may act around them.

**My thoughts**

A frequent discussion these days between my fellow teachers and I is how disrespectful children are becoming, and how mean they specifically are to each other. The problem is happening at younger and younger ages, especially in the springtime, I think. Not only are they being mean to each other, but also seeking revenge instead of handling the situation in a positive way.

The conversations being had in these book happen on a daily basis in our schools and homes. One child's feelings are being hurt. Another child wants to extract revenge by giving the bully a taste of his own medicine. I just hope that all children have someone as wonderful as Uncle Bear, who guides them along a more appropriate path. He emphasizes how wonderful Veggie actually is and how seeking retaliation merely makes you as bad as the bully. It never solves the problem. Instead, you need to look to yourself to be the bigger person and to focus on what makes you unique and special and wonderful.

Uncle Bear also acknowledges the anger and frustration that Veggie is feeling. It is important to help a child learn how to label her feelings, and why she is feeling that way, so that she can better understand them.

This book is also easy to read through its rhyming verse. Complemented by vibrant pictures, it is going to be attractive to young children. This is one I would like to use in my classroom as a part of our peace curriculum. I am also interested in seeing more of the series.

'Savannah's Story' by Jodi Stone

Book blurb:

All Savannah wants is for someone to play with her. When she asks her older sisters to play, they both turn her down. It's at that very moment when Savannah makes a wish that leads her on a magical journey...one that will lead her on a trip through her favorite dollhouse and floating on a cloud of bubbles. Follow along with Savannah as she realizes the true meaning of friendship and family.

**My thoughts**

Kids can relate to the story of a little sister whose siblings don't want to play with her. So, she makes a magical wish and ends up going on an adventure in her favorite place: her dollhouse. She ends up having a lot of fun, but then realizes how much she still misses her family. She heads back home, only to discover that she can keep the magic alive.

It's a sweet story with cute illustrations done by the author. I can almost envision her sitting side by side with her children while working on this book. The rhyming story flows well and doesn't feel forced as some rhyming stories can be. This is one that the kids in my class also enjoyed.
